SHUSWAP SWIMMING

Salmon Arm's year round swim team!

Welcome to Shuswap Swimming Team’s Website

May Long Weekend Swimming Schedule: May 18-21, 2012
As we head into the long weekend, there is always some confusion around the swim team schedule, especially once you factor in the first camping weekend of the year, or alternatively prolific amounts of gardening going on!  Here is what to expect:

  • Friday May 18, 2012 – Regular swimming for all squads … no changes even with the Pro-D Day.
  • Saturday May 19, 2012 – No swimming.  Coach Jenny will be in Westbank at the Jamboree, and Coach Mike will be in Kelowna at the Masters National Championships.
  • Monday May 21, 2012 – No swimming … Happy Victoria Day.

See you back at the pool again on normal schedule on Tuesday May 22nd.

Swim Meet Results:
We recently went to the Kelowna May 2012 Long Course Invitational and VKSC Spring Jamboree swim meets, and had many great performances at each!  With many new team records broken we want to encourage you to check out both the Swim Meet Results and the Team Records sections of our website to get all of the details!

Swim Meet Information:
With  the Long Course season now under way, we are looking forward to some more local regional meets and the long course meets of 2012:

Shuswap Swimming Team Time Trial: April 28, 2012
We held a Time Trial on Saturday April 28, 2012 to have some of our swimmers race in events that they do not often get opportunities to race, and it was a great success.  We had 25 swimmers take part, and from those swimmers we ended up breaking nine team records and seeing some swimmers take part in races for the first time ever!  Thank you very much to parents and swimmers who were able to come to the pool and help out, and a special thanks to Bernie Strachan for driving to Salmon Arm from Vernon to help us at the Time Trial.

Registration for Pre-Competitive Session #4: April 2 – May 25, 2012

NEW MEMBERS:
Registration for each group will be ongoing throughout the season, space permitting.

Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials: Mar 27-Apr 1, 2012
The Canadia Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials were held in Montreal for those swimmers who are Sr. National qualified athletes in Olympic events.  The racing was FAST as these swimmers from around Canada squared up to see who will represent Canada at this summer's upcoming Olympic & Paralympic Games in London.  Here are some links that you might find helpful to watch for some of the results:

Polar Bear Swim: January 1, 2011 - 10:30 am
Once again, now in our 5th season, we have taken part in the Annual Polar Bear Swim at Canoe Beach.  We had a great turnout with approximately 15 youth swimmers, 4 masters, 1 parent, 1 volunteer supporter and 1 coach take part.

We did so in an attempt to raise awareness and funds for diabetes research in honour of those who are impacted by diabetes on our team.  For each of the Shuswap Swimming Team members who has come out and taken the Polar Bear plunge with us, the Shuswap Swimming Team is donating $10 (per swimmer) to the Canadian Diabetes Association, earmarking the funds for Type 1 diabetes research.  Currently, as you may or may not know, we have two swimmers aged 12 or younger on our team who have Type 1 diabetes, and in our 2nd and 3rd seasons we also had a coach who was a Type 1 diabetic, so this activity for us is personal!

For those of you who came out, we also had a follow up brunch at PJ’s restaurant.

We hope that you all had Happy Holidays, a Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you all at the pool in the coming week!

Pro-D Days ...
In case you are wondering, swimming is on as per our usual schedules for all of our swimming groups during Pro-D days at school.  See you at the pool!

2010-2011 Annual Awards Picnic: June 27, 2011 - 4:30 pm
The annual awards picnic took place at the covered picnic area of Canoe Beach on Monday June 27, 2011.  All swimmers in Gold, Platinum and Provincial Plus levels and their families were invited to this pot luck affair.  We had a great time, and were sorry that a few of you were not able to make it out.  Click here to see a list of all of our award winners for the season! For all swimmers in our competitive squads, they received a package containing a record of all of their results from each competition for this past season, along with any awards not yet received (such as ribbons from swim meets) and any certificates from the Annual Awards Picnic.  For those who were not able to attend, we sent all of your goodies out to you along with the registration information for the upcoming season.
